October 2008

Trident SAC again, this time Bob, with a better fish, a double figure Undulate Ray, caught in October amongst all those Dogs and Pout that were robbing and wrecking the baits as soon as they hit the bottom. Normally this is my most successful month, I will admit that it has been a struggle for me in 2008.

Now I am waiting for the winds to ease off and try for those November Cod that should now be inshore, and see if we can find some real lunkers amongst those open ground Congers.

September 2008

Not again is this the same man and the same fish? Can't be the same fish but this is Chris again who books on behalf of the Trident SAC from Watford. He latched into another decent Pollock at a tad under 13lb, this time we were anchored and closer to the Needles light.

The mid September trip produced some decent fishing in the last 2 hours of the day with Pollock, Conger to 40lb, Cod, Tope and a Thornback plus Whiting, Pout, Dogs, Scad, Bass. Poor Cod and Mackerel showing in a good tide and to relatively small baits. It just goes to show.

August 2008

We have seen, I suspect, some of the worst summer weather in living memory and as I have been on my hols for some of this time and the boat has had some work on her hulls, I have struggled for any really 'good fish' pictures. The Tony Lavington crew have still not sent me the picture of the 6lb 6oz Brill they caught with Mike, so here are some pictures of my fish caught while on Holiday in France, a 20lb Mirror Carp and a 16lb Sturgeon.

July 2008

Here is Paul of the Church Crookham crew who pulled this 17lb Blonde to the boat on his new uptider which gave him a great scrap. The fish was caught out on the Banks and was one of 7 Blondes lsnded all of which were returned to fight another day.

June 2008

The June 'Fish of the Month' was an easy decision, due to less trips and a very good fish.

Trident SAC had a good day out and certainly christened my new vessel with some decent fish. Here is Chris with his inshore Pollock, caught on the drift, over a small wreck, close to the Needles. The specimen Pollock nearly pushed the scales passed 15lb. This is a good specimen inshore Pollock.

Chris also accounted for a 6lb Bass, a 10lb Thornback and Tope while anchored in the morning of the same trip.

The rest chipped in with their fare share of species too.

May 2008

It was hard to pick the best fish from May but here is a good 'un, that was feisty and returned alive to fight another day! Chis of the Balmalawn Honda crew thought he was snagged into the bottom at first. The big bully weighed around 9lb.

The Bream have been good but I don't think that as many hen fish are being returned as they should be. Here is Tom Ennion with a fish that was around the 3lb 8oz mark and one of the Best on Due South this spring.

April 2008

The Tony Lavington crew fished a species hunt on Saturday 5th April, non-competitive of course, while the main quarry was an early but large Black Bream. Well we had one Black Bream along with eight other species making a total of nine species for the day. Not bad in early April. The pick of the bunch was a rare inshore Coalfish of 4lb 5ozs skilfully caught by 'Nonchalant' Norman (old fashioned for 'cool', I think), who also had the best two Pollock.
Species caught: Pollock, Pout, Coalfish, Black Bream, Dogfish, Ballan Wrasse, Bull Huss, Corkwing Wrasse and Tompot Blenny.

March 2008

The Royal Berkshire SAC crew fished well, with good well presented baits, which enabled Bob to nail this heafty Blonde, which pulled the scales down to nearly 24lb. The big beautiful female scrapped for 20 to 25 minutes on Bob's up-tider. The beautiful Blonde was slipped back over the side, to fight another day.

February 2008

High pressure dominating but with the English Channel on the bottom edge of them this normally means very cold winds and anything from F3 - F7 Easterlies. Well we got F4 and a bit nearly all weekend. Bob from the Bisley crew managed this Thornback early on, it deceived our guestimations by showing around 13lb when weighed. This is a decent specimen and she went back to drop her purses that will make another three or four of these over the next couple of months!
