The Best Fish
of the Month or the best days fishing, with
pictures and stories
December 2007
John Richards makes the Due South 2007 Photo Gallery for
the second time, with another fish of the month, a cracking 21lb prime Cod.
October 2007

This
is what we weren't expecting deep off Sowley, a 12lb Undulate Ray. We had a
Codling and lost a very good Cod but this made up for Mike's 'dropped fish'.
Although a heavier trace and he would have had a big Cod to show the camera
too.
September 2007

Just to prove it was not luck (I wish), here is a good
picture of a second double figure Turbot falling to Due South crews this
summer. Tony Lavington and Jon Richards shared this cracker after it
snaffled both their sand eels.
August 2007

The Ashlett 'Boys' are top anglers and proved it yet again
after getting into a good catch of Plaice aboard Due South in the Committee
Cup.
Plaice to 4lbs were released! Both of these came up on the
last drop as the engine was started. On the left was the best of the day
falling to Steve Davies at 4-12 and took the honours.
July 2007

Summer means variety; here is Trinny (Adam Moody) with one
of lots of Hounds caught amongst a mixed haul of species.
Right is my Robert on a test trip with a Bass caught
floating a live bait. Great fishing for the young, old, women, kids and
Skippers!
June 2007
Here is a nice Bass caught by Ron of Bisley SAC and believe
it or not on a very smelly old Sandeel while drifting the inshore banks just
SE of the light. First he showed the rest of the crew how to catch smaller
Bass on the Green and Orange shads before experimenting. The testing session
secured him the best Bass of the day at 8lb 4ozs. It is amazing how quick
smelly old sandeels can become valuable! As the others shared his bait more
Bass were caught.
May 2007
It
would be great to target monster Turbot but I have to admit that this is a
bonus fish and what a cracker. Kev Witt
shows off a lovely Turbot weighed in at 16lb 5oz. This was the best fish
caught during the early June Ashlett SAC competition, from Due South, about
3 miles South of the Needles Light.
Our turbot story made the Evening Echo fishing section
headlines 'Turbot is reeled in after battle of Witt'. Many thanks go to
Chris Clark for a good write up.

Another good fish, this time from the Solent, was this
Ashlett SAC Junior Club Record Black Bream of 3lb 12.5oz. Mitchell Jones
caught this cracker on their own boat 'Mystique'. This picture was sent via
picture text from a mobile phone! Now come on boy's there is no excuse for
not capturing those 'fish of a lifetime' in good quality.
April 2007
Roland from Bisley SAC was one of a number of anglers that caught some
impressive Black Bream. So far this year on Due South the best one weighed
at 3lb 14.5 oz by yours truly.
February 2007
Here's brother Brian, who was fishing the Western Solent
on his own boat 'Mystique' launched from Calshot. This near specimen weighed
on the boat at 23lb was followed immediately by a 4lb Bass. You can see by
the calm sea, that the day was a good one, he had the fish to cap it off.
This is a good contender for the Senior Boat FOM for Ashlett SAC.
January 2007

So this is what the fishing is like when you get out there
in January 2007! January has gone from storms to a near summers day. We had over
25 Congers with Bob and Mike getting the better ones at 35lb and 38lb
weighed on the boat. The first picture shows Mike with his 14lb Undulate,
then Steve with a feisty 12lb 12oz Thornback which wouldn't open up and
lastly Wayne with a 6lb Bass and Mike with a 7lb Cod.
